This opening part of the Diploma in Specialist Teaching is designed to provide a grounding in the key theoretical perspectives and constructs required to gain a firm understanding of how literacy-related difficulties arise and are perpetuated. It aims to give participants the sort of framework knowledge necessary to support learners with literacy-related difficulties in a variety of education environments. A range of barriers to competent performance, including the operating environment, will be examined as a foundation to identifying appropriate provision.
